6a - Our Lady of Mercy College (OLMC) Students

OLMC Students 1905

Students from OLMC pose before the newly completed West Wing of the Convent. The original St Joseph’s Hospital building is seen in the background before the additions of the East Wing in 1916 and the third storey and colonnades in 1921. The image is from a postcard which country students could send home promoting the College for potential new enrolments.

School Uniforms were not introduced until 1914. Until then boarders were expected to wear a black dress with white collar – usually lace. Day pupils could wear any type of dress.

A historic sepia-toned photograph of young girls in uniforms gathered outside a grand brick building with arched walkways. Some stand, while others sit or lay on the grass, engaging in activities.
